Privacy policy
What Heater Handbook collects, how email is handled, and how Google advertising cookies would work if AdSense is turned on later.
This policy describes the Heater Handbook website, an independent editorial project about home water heaters. The publisher is the Heater Handbook editorial team. There is no customer account, no store, and no street address published on the site. The contact method is email: contact@heaterhandbook.com.
Pages you only read
You can read every guide without identifying yourself. The site does not run a first-party analytics product in this version, does not set an account cookie, and does not ask you to create a login. If the site is hosted on a static host such as Cloudflare Pages, that host may keep ordinary server logs, which can include your IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser’s user agent. Those logs are the host’s, made for security and operations. Heater Handbook does not use them to build a marketing profile.
Email you choose to send
If you write to the contact address, you send your email address, whatever you put in the message, and any attachment. That material is used to answer you or to correct a page. It is not sold and it is not added to a mailing list. Do not send payment card numbers, government identification numbers, or medical records. A cropped photo of a water-heater data plate is enough if you are asking about a model. Keep other people out of the frame.
Email is stored in the inbox that receives it. Delete requests can be sent to the same address. A message that has already been quoted into a corrected page, with your identifying details removed, may remain as part of the published correction.
Advertising and Google
The HTML of each page includes a meta tag naming a Google AdSense publisher account, and the site publishes an ads.txt file. The AdSense automatic-ads script is included only as an HTML comment. It does not load, and it does not set cookies, in the current build. There are no advertisement boxes on the pages.
If the site is approved for AdSense and that script is later enabled, Google may use cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads, measure them, and, depending on your settings and region, personalize them. That processing is Google’s. The documents to read are Google’s advertising technologies policy at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads and Google’s privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. Ad personalization controls are at https://adssettings.google.com. Turning the script on would be a change to this site, and this policy would be updated to say the script is active.
Affiliate links are not used in this version. A link to a manufacturer’s manual or a government publication does not pay the site.
Cookies
Until the advertising script is enabled, a normal visit should not receive a Heater Handbook cookie. Your browser may still store its own history. If a future version adds a cookie for a necessary function, this policy will name it. Advertising cookies, if they are added later, would come from Google under the policy above, not from a Heater Handbook login.
Children
The guides are written for adults who maintain or replace a house’s water heater. The site is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from them. Temperature and scalding pages discuss children’s injury risk because that is the subject of the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s guidance, not because the site asks children to write in.
External pages
Guides link to government agencies, ENERGY STAR, manufacturer support sites, and similar sources. Those sites have their own policies. Opening one is a request you make to that site.
Security and retention
Static pages have little personal data to secure because they do not hold accounts. Email is only as private as email is. Do not use the contact address for secrets. Server logs, if the host keeps them, follow the host’s retention schedule.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated date on this page will change, and a note will be added at the top when the change affects advertising or email. Continued use of the site after an update is how a small editorial site records notice. There is no account to email a blast to.
