Terms of use

The terms for using Heater Handbook’s water-heater guides, including what the text may be quoted for and what it does not promise.

These terms cover the Heater Handbook website. By reading the pages you agree to use them as general information, under the limits below. If you do not agree, do not use the site. The contact address is contact@heaterhandbook.com.

No professional relationship

Reading a guide, or sending email about one, does not make the Heater Handbook editorial team your plumber, gas fitter, electrician, inspector, attorney, or physician. The pages are not a bid, a permit drawing, a code official’s interpretation, or a diagnosis of your house. Local codes, the adopted edition, and the manual for your model control the work. The disclaimer is part of these terms.

Gas leaks, carbon monoxide alarms, active flooding from a heater, and injuries are emergencies. They are handled by leaving the building and calling the utility, the emergency number, or a licensed contractor who can attend. They are not handled by waiting for an email reply.

The guides

The text is original editorial content from the Heater Handbook editorial team. You may read it, print a page for personal use on your own heater, and quote a short passage if you link to the page and do not imply that Heater Handbook endorses you. You may not copy a whole guide, a whole section of guides, or the site’s structure onto another site. You may not present the text as a contractor’s advice or strip the safety limits off a procedure and republish the steps.

Manufacturer names appear so you can find the right manual. They are not sponsors. Cost ranges are labeled as published typical ranges and belong to the cited source and year. They are not an offer to do the work at that price.

What the site does not promise

Water heaters differ by model year. Codes differ by city. Fuel prices move. A page can be wrong, out of date, or inapplicable to the unit in front of you. The site is provided as-is, without a warranty of completeness, fitness for a particular house, or uninterrupted availability. To the extent the law allows, the editorial project is not liable for losses that result from using a guide, including property damage, injury, a failed inspection, or a heater replaced when a part would have done. Some places do not allow certain limitations. In those places the limitation applies only as far as the law allows.

That limit is not a dare. The procedures stop where a licensed trade should take over because the harm from a mistake is out of proportion to a web page. Follow the stop points.

Your email

Do not send unlawful, abusive, or deceptive material. Do not send other people’s personal data. Do not send confidential information you expect to stay privileged. Mail is read for corrections and questions, as the contact page describes. There is no promise of a reply by a certain day.

Advertising

The current build does not load third-party ad scripts. A commented tag and an ads.txt file are present so the site can apply to an advertising network. If advertising is turned on later, the privacy policy will describe it. Ads, if they appear, do not change the conclusions of a guide and are not endorsements by this site of the advertiser.

Links to agencies and manufacturers are for the reader’s next document. Those sites can change, move a PDF, or go offline. A link is not a claim that the whole of the other site agrees with Heater Handbook.

Changes to these terms

The updated date will change when the terms change. The version on this page is the version that applies. There is no separate click-wrap account.
